Fabulous House of My Cuz.

I went for a visit to cousin Terra's.  She's fabulous. So is her house.
Come, I'll take you on a tour.

That ceramic lemonade container is a bold move. And its pretty much amazing.

The little tags are painted with chalkboard paint to write what's in the jars.. Cool.

The room of Etta James, their darling almost 2 year old.

It was obvious how much they love their daughter. How cute is this shelf!

Love this shelf with the little booties!

The chalkboard message wall.

Ya I know.  Pretty fabulous.

Good job Terr.

DIY Wood letter Canvas Art

Sometimes I just need a quick little craft to get me by.
This literally took me 5 minutes.

I used:

Thin canvas board
Wood letters

And that's all.

And these three remain,  Faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love. :)

House Before & After

My parents have done some major reno's in the house they moved into a couple years ago.
And when I say major, I mean major.

They started out with the living room... cut out the carpets for hardwood, painted like crazy and took out the railing.. thank heavens for that.

Next was the entrance... it needed a lot of TLC.  The 90's green and coral just weren't meshing well. The double stair way was filled in, walls painted, top of the railing painted, flooring redone and a little decor added.

The dining room was the next task. Paint, hardwood and change of lighting were the big ones for this room.

I know what you're thinking...is this the same room?
YES. The answer is yes.

They also had started the kitchen, family room & bathrooms completely from scratch as well....
Stay tuned for those make-overs!

Thrift Finds!

A couple of stores, a couple of treasures.

I thought this purse was so cute! Just a little satchel to carry by my side!

Pillowcases that will go perfectly with my grey comforter and sheets.
I got these at Urban Thrift -- so far my favorite thrift store -- see my post about them here

A few nice crisp white plates a crystal candle holder... But the mystery is, what will I do with them?
I have a plan... you'll have to wait to see!

Urban Thrifting

thrift stores calgary

I've been in Calgary for the last couple weeks and have been trying to explore as much of the city as I can!!

And since I'm a Thrifting addict... you should know that those stores are going to be part of the equation.

I found THE cutest thrift shop called Urban Thrift.  Seriously, this find was the biggest thrill of my day. You can see some pictures to the left that shows how great of job they do at displaying their merchandise.

The coolest thing about this business is that they get everything donated to them -- but also support a whole classroom for the non-profit Haiti Arise and also support entrepreneurs with Kiva.

Their blog on their website makes it more personal -- it gives some demos of how to refashion some old clothing as well as the tricks for second-hand shopping.

Overall I was totally wow-ed. Saskatoon needs to up their game!
In the mean-time, stop in when you are passing through Calgary.

DIY Hot Pad made with Stones

Its official.
Fall I mean.

The reds, the yellow, the oranges. They have all pronounced its coming.
And man, am I ever enjoying it! Scarves, boots and jackets are slowly all coming back into my closet... looove it.

Since the beach days are coming to an end... its time to do some crafting. Hot pad made with stones coming up!

What you'll need:

Stones or glass beads (as flat as possible)
Glue gun
Foam or felt
Drawer grip

All the supplies.

I had to cut a template on paper before I cut the grip to get the right size. The drawer grip was a little bit too thin for what I wanted, so I also added some felt on the bottom to make it more secure.

I taped it to the grip first so that I could cut it.

Once that was done, I glued the outside layer of rocks with my handy-dandy glue gun.

Then I laid out the rest of the middle to fit a pattern in there -- I highly recommend laying down the rocks exactly how you place them...you'll run into trouble other wise.

After I glued them all down, I pushed up from underneath to see where the gaps were -- I had to glue the parts that came spread apart when I did that to make it more secure.

Voila.

I did the same with some glass beads I had too and finished it off with some buttons in the gaps!

Happy Fall. Enjoy it before the cold comes like neon from the 80's.
